Abstract

Dokazivanje nejednakosti važan je dio matematike, a na matematičkim natjecanjima često se pojavljuje zadatak u kojem treba dokazati neku nejednakost. U ovom radu obradili smo nejednakosti između osnovnih sredina, odnosno nejednakosti između aritmetičke, geometrijske, harmonijske i kvadratne sredine. Najpoznatija od njih je nejednakost između aritmetičke i geometrijske sredine. Iz tog je razloga njoj posvećeno cijelo jedno poglavlje te su ponuđena četiri različita dokaza te nejednakosti. Osim toga, pokazali smo na nekoliko primjera kako se ona koristi pri dokazivanju raznih nejednakosti, ali i pri pronalaženju ekstremnih vrijednosti funkcija. Također, u tom se dijelu nalaze i dva zadatka s Međunarodne matematičke olimpijade, koja se na elegantan način mogu riješiti primjenom nejednakosti između aritmetičke i geometrijske sredine. U preostalom dijelu rada dokazali smo nejednakost između geometrijske i harmonijske te između aritmetičke i kvadratne sredine, a zatim na nekoliko primjera pokazali primjenu tih nejednakosti pri dokazivanju drugih nejednakosti.

Abstract (english)

Proving inequalities is an important part of mathematics. It is also an example of problems that are frequently given on mathematics competitions. In this thesis we have worked on inequalities between arithmetic, geometric, harmonic and quadratic means. The most famous inequality is the one between arithmetic and geometric mean. We have given four different proofs of that inequality. Beside of that, we have shown on a few examples how to use that inequality for proving other inequalities, and also for solving some other problems like finding maximum values of functions. Also, we have solved two problems from International Mathematical Olympiad, which are good examples of using inequality between arithmetic and geometric mean. In the remaining part of thesis, one can find proofs of inequalities between geometric and harmonic, and arithmetic and quadratic inequality, and also a few examples of the application of those inequalities
