Abstract

Ogulinska špiljska spužvica, Eunapius subterraneus, Sket & Velikonja, 1984 (Porifera, Spongillidae), jedina je stigobiontna slatkovodna spužva na svijetu (Sket & Velikojna, 1984). Pronađena je u okolici grada Ogulina i u 1392 metra dubokom Jamskom sustavu Lukina jama – Trojama na Sjevernom Velebitu. Poznate su dvije podvrste E. s. subterraneus i E. s. mollisparspanis, od kojih ova druga obitava samo u Špilji Rudnici VI. Korišteni su molekularni biljezi 18S rRNA i ITS2 kako bi se razjasnili filogenetski odnosi podvrste E. s. mollisparspanis i geografski udaljene populacije iz Jamskog sustava Lukina jama – Trojama. Nadalje, kako bi se dobio uvid u filogeografsku strukturu i raznolikost alela ove zaštićene vrste, umnožena je intronska regija ATPS β kao molekularni biljeg na 93 jedinke čime je prekriven čitav areal rasprostranjenja vrste. Rezultati ne podupiru nezavisni taksonomski položaj populacije iz Špilje Rudnice VI, ali jasno odvajaju populaciju iz Jamskog sustava Lukina jama – Trojama u odnosu na ostale.

Abstract (english)

The Ogulin cave sponge Eunapius subterraneus, Sket & Velikonja, 1984 (Porifera, Spongillidae), is only known stygobiotic sponge in the world. It is found in a small region near the town of Ogulin and in a sump 1392 meters below ground in the Lukina jama – Trojama cave system on Mt. Velebit. Two subspecies were described: E. s. subterraneus and E. s. mollisparspanis. The later is known from a single cave (Rudnica VI). We used 18S rRNA and ITS2 molecular markers to clarify the phylogenetic positions of E. s. mollisparspanis and a disjunct population from Lukina jama - Trojama cave system. Furthermore, to infer the overall phylogeographic structure and alelle diversity of this endangered species we amplified the intron region of ATPS β gene as a molecular marker on 93 specimens sampled throughout the entire range. The results don’t support an independent taxonomical position of Rudnica VI population but the population from Lukina jama – Trojama is clearly separated form the others.
