Abstract

Sistematika životinja ima dugu tradiciju u biologiji, a metode molekularne filogenetike u zadnjih
nekoliko desetljeća dovele su u pitanje brojne tradicionalne stavove u tom području. Unutar
skupine Protostomia najviše se ističe pitanje položaja člankonožaca. Tradicionalna hipoteza
Articulata, koja se temelji na komparativnoj anatomiji, objedinjava člankonošce i kolutićavce kao
sestrinske skupine zbog segmentiranog tijela u skupinu Articulata. Hipoteza Ecdysozoa razvila se
na osnovama molekularne filogenetike i govori da su člankonošci srodni ostalim protostomičnim
životinjama koje presvlače kutikulu zbog čega se grupiraju u skupinu Ecdysozoa. S druge strane,
kolutićavci su srodni koljenima koja imaju trepetljikavu ličinku. Kroz prikaz povijesnog razvoja
hipoteze Ecdysozoa može se pratiti porast važnosti molekularne filogenetike u modernoj biologiji.
Srodstveni odnosi koje implicira hipoteza Ecdysozoa mijenjaju pogled na evoluciju životinja,
posebice na razvoj segmentacije tijela i očuvanost embriogenetskih razvojnih obrazaca, te utječu
na ustroj čitavog filogenetskog stabla skupine Protostomia.

Abstract (english)

Animal systematics has a long tradition in biology, and the methods of molecular phylogenetics
have challenged numerous traditional views in this field over the past few decades. Within the
group of Protostomia, the question of the position of arthropods is the most prominent. The
traditional Articulata hypothesis, based on comparative anatomy, groups arthropods and annelids
as sister groups due to their segmented bodies. The Ecdysozoa hypothesis, developed based on
molecular phylogenetics, suggests that arthropods are related to other protostomic animals that
molt their cuticle, leading to their grouping in the Ecdysozoa clade. On the other hand, annelids are
related to taxa that have a ciliated larva. By examining the historical development of the Ecdysozoa
hypothesis, one can trace the increasing importance of molecular phylogenetics in modern biology.
The relationships implied by the Ecdysozoa hypothesis reshape our understanding of animal
evolution, particularly regarding the development of body segmentation and the conservation of
embryonic developmental patterns, and influence the overall structure of the phylogenetic tree of
the Protostomia group.
