Abstract

Životni ciklus svih kopnenih biljaka sastoji se od izmjene generacija sporofita i gametofita. Spore su
nespolne rasplodne stanice mahovina i papratnjača, a višestanično peludno zrnce značajno je
reducirani muški gametofit sjemenjača. Palinologija je znanost koja u užem smislu riječi proučava
pelud i spore biljaka, tj. palinomorfe, a temelji se na palinološkoj analizi koja uključuje izolaciju
organskih mikrofosila iz sedimenta, određivanje kvalitativnog i kvantitativnog sastava palinomorfa te
izradu i interpretaciju peludnih dijagrama. Nekoliko je značajki palinomorfa koje njihovu analizu čine
informativnom: 1. Kopnene biljke stvaraju velike količine peluda i spora 2. Stijenka peludnih zrnaca i
spora sadržava sporopolenin, kompleksni polimer zbog kojeg se palinomorfi mogu očuvati u
sedimentu kada je većina drugih (mikro)fosila razgrađena. 3. Pelud i spore mogu se determinirati do
određene sistematske razine. 4. Analizom peludnog spektra iz sedimentne jezgre dobivamo sliku
vegetacije na određenom mjestu u određenom vremenu. Zbog navedenih postavki palinološka analiza
postaje korisna za razumijevanje biljne raznolikosti, rekonstrukciju vegetacije i promjena u njenom
sastavu i strukturi kroz vrijeme te pokazuje utjecaj čovjeka i klime na promjene u biljnom pokrovu.

Abstract (english)

The life cycle of terrestrial plants includes the alternation of sporophyte and gametophyte generations.
Spores are the asexual reproductive cells of mosses and ferns. The multicellular pollen grain is a
significantly reduced male gametophyte of seed plants. Palynology is a science that studies pollen and
spores of plants, i.e. palynomorphs. It is based on palynological analysis, which includes the isolation
of organic microfossils from sediments, the determination of the qualitative and quantitative
composition of palynomorphs, and the creation and interpretation of pollen diagrams. Features of
palynomorphs that make their analysis informative are: 1. terrestrial plants produce large amounts of
pollen and spores 2. The wall of pollen grains and spores contains sporopollenin, a complex polymer
due to which palynomorphs can be preserved in sediments when most other (micro)fossils have been
decomposed. 3. Pollen and spores can be determined up to a specific systematic level. 4. By analyzing
the pollen spectrum from the sediment core, we can visualise the vegetation cover in a certain place at
a certain time. Therefore, palynological analysis is useful for understanding plant diversity,
reconstruction and changes of vegetation in its composition and structure over time, and reflects the
influence of man and climate on changes in plant cover.
