Abstract

Šišmiši (Chiroptera), vrlo neobični leteći sisavci, imaju veoma važnu ulogu u ekosustavu. Zbog svoje anatomske građe i brojnih neobičnih prilagodbi poput letenja, hibernacije i eholokacije ističu se među ostalim sisavcima. Njihova raznolikost je pokazatelj zdravih ekosustava i zdrave prirode. Raznolikost šišmiša u Republici Hrvatskoj je velika s čak 34 vrste te su svi zaštićeni u sklopu Direktive o staništima zbog svoje ugroženosti, a većina ih se nalazi na Crvenom popisu sisavaca Republike Hrvatske. Najčešća ugroza im je uništavanje staništa i skloništa, uznemiravanje tijekom hibernacije te prekomjerna uporaba pesticida u šumarstvu i poljoprivredi.

Abstract (english)

Bats (Chiroptera), highly unusual flying mammals, play a crucial role in ecosystems. Due to their anatomical structure and numerous unique adaptations like flight, hibernation, and echolocation, they stand out among other mammals. Their diversity serves as an indicator of healthy ecosystems and a sound environment. The diversity of bats in Croatia is significant, encompassing as many as 34 species, all protected under the Habitat Directive due to their vulnerability, and most of them are listed in the Red List of mammals of the Republic of Croatia. Their most common threat is habitat and roost destruction, disturbance during hibernation, and excessive pesticide use in forestry and agriculture.
