Abstract

Klimatske promjene su dugoročne promjene u klimi koje se dešavaju tokom desetljeća, stoljeća ili dužeg razdoblja. Uzrokuje ih ubrzano povećanje količine stakleničkih plinova u Zemljinoj atmosferi koji primarno nastaju spaljivanjem fosilnih goriva; ugljena, nafte i zemnog plina. Ovi plinovi zadržavaju toplinu unutar zemljine atmosfere što dovodi do zagrijavanja zemlje i oceana. Ljudi su svojim načinom života nanijeli veliku štetu Zemlji. Od početka Industrijske revolucije sredinom 18.stoljeća, emisije stakleničkih plinova su počele rasti i nisu stale do danas. Htjeli mi to ili ne, klimatske promjene dio su naših života. Čak i kada bismo sutra pronašli način da odmah eliminiramo naše emisije, planet bi se i dalje morao oporaviti od stakleničkih plinova koji su već u atmosferi. Mnogi dijelovi svijeta su već osjetili posljedice klimatskih promjena; podizanje razine mora, topljenje snijega i leda, toplinske valove i ekstremne vremenske uvjete poput oluja, suša i požara. Očekuje se da će se ti učinci nastaviti, u nekim slučajevima čak i pojačati, i time utjecati na ekonomiju, širenje smrtonosnih bolesti, zalihe pitke vode i onečišćenje zraka. Biljni i životinjski svijet također pati; mnoge vrste se teško prilagođavaju na nove uvjete u kojima su se našle stoga ne čudi činjenica da bi u skorijoj budućnosti veliki broj vrsta mogao biti ugrožen. Ovo je vrijeme kada svi trebamo preispitati svoje životne navike.

Abstract (english)

Climate change is a long-term change in climate that happens over a decade, a century or a longer period of time. They are caused by the increasing amounts of greenhouse gases in the Earth's atmosphere, which are primarily caused by the burning of fossil fuels; coal, oil and natural gas. These gases keep the heat inside the Earth's atmosphere, leading to warming up of the Earth and the ocean. People have caused great damage to Earth by their way of life. Since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution in the mid-18th century, greenhouse gas emissions have begun to grow and have continued to grow ever since. Climate change is a part of our lives, whether we want to accept it or not. Even if we find a way to immediately eliminate our emissions tomorrow, the planet would still have to recover from greenhouse gases that are already in the atmosphere. Many parts of the world have already felt the consequences of climate change; rising sea levels, melting snow and ice, heat waves and extreme weather conditions such as storms, droughts and fires. It is expected that these effects will continue, in some cases even strengthen, thereby affecting the economy, the spread of lethal diseases, potable water supplies and air pollution. Animal and plant species worldwide also suffer; many species are facing difficulties adapting to the new conditions, so it is no wonder that in the near future a large number of species could be endangered. Now is the time when we all need to re-examine our lifestyle.
