Abstract

Fotosinteza je proces kojim zelene biljke, alge i neke bakterije iskorištavaju svjetlosnu energiju za dobivanje kemijski iskoristive energije i sintezu ugljikohidrata, i jedini je biološki značajan proces koji anorganski ugljik može pretvarati u organski oblik. Odvija se u dvije faze od kojih prva služi za apsorpciju svjetlosne energije i njenu pretvorbu u kemijsku energiju u visokoenergetskim vezama ATP-a, dok se u drugoj fazi ta energija koristi za sintezu ugljikohidrata. U ovom radu objašnjeni su mehanizmi obje faze fotosinteze i njihovi principi rada, tj. na koji se način svjetlosna energija pretvara u kemijsku energiju i što je sve biljkama za to potrebno te kako je fotosinteza regulirana. Opisani su alternativni načini fiksiranja anorganskog ugljika koji su razvile biljke toplih krajeva kao odgovor na neučinkovitost pojedinih dijelova fotosintetskog metabolizma.

Abstract (english)

Photosynthesis is a process by which green plants, algae and some bacteria utilize light energy in order to gain energy they can use chemically and synthesize carbohydrates, and it is the only biologically significant process that can translate inorganic carbon to its organic form. It is made up of two phases: in the first phase the energy of light is absorbed and stored in its chemical form in high-energy bonds of ATP, and in the second phase it is utilized for carbohydrate synthesis. This paper describes the mechanisms of both phases of photosynthesis and the principles they are based on, i.e. the way light induces chemical energy harness, what it is that plants have to be able to do so and how it's all regulated. It also includes the description of alternative carbon fixation pathways developed by the plants native to hot environments in order to circumvent certain inefficiencies of photosynthetic metabolism.
