Abstract

Rod Ebolavirus, zajedno s rodomMarburgvirus, pripadnik je porodice Filoviridae. Danas je poznato pet vrsta pripadnika roda Ebolavirus (Zaire ebolavirus, Sudan ebolavirus, Reston ebolavirus, Ivory Coast ebolavirus i Bandibugyo ebolavirus), s negativnim jednolančanim RNA genomom. Primarni izvor infekcije su životinje – šišmiši i majmuni. Pojava infekcija virusima ovog roda kod ljudi zabilježena je ne tako davne 1976. godine u Sudanu i Demokratskoj Republici Kongo, a od tada se rasprostranjivala i na ostatak afričkog područja, ali sporadično i na druge dijelove svijeta. Posljednji slučajevi velike epidemije zabilježeni su 2014/2015. godine, također u Africi sa smrtnošću oko 70%. Mjere prevencije prilikom kontakta sa životinjama, mogućim izvorima infekcije, i pravilna higijena osnova su za sprječavanje budućih epidemija.

Abstract (english)

Genus Ebolavirus, as well as genus Marburgvirus, is a member of family Filoviridae. There are five known species of genus Ebolavirus (Zaire ebolavirus, Sudan ebolavirus, Reston ebolavirus, Ivory Coast ebolavirus and Bandibugyo ebolavirus), all having negative- sense single stranded RNA genome. The main sources of infection are animals – fruit bats and monkeys. The first outbreak of this Ebolavirus was observed in 1976 in Sudan and Democratic Republic of Congo. Since then the virus has spread to other parts of Africa but also sporadically to other parts of the world. The last case of Ebolavirus outbreak was observed in 2014/2015 in Africa with the morality of 70%. Preventive measures during the contant with animals, as possible sources of the infection, and proper hygiene are essential to prevent future outbreaks.
