Abstract

Šišmiši (red Chiroptera) su najneobičniji red unutar razreda sisavaca. Zajedno sa pticama, jedini su živući kralježnjaci koji su sposobni letjeli. Zahvaljujući letu i eholokaciji, kao načinu orijentacije, drugi su po brojnosti i rasprostranjenosti u svijetu unutar razreda sisavaca. Eholokacija, kao njihov način orijentiranja u prirodi, vrlo je specifičan i zahtjeva mnoge morfološke i fiziološke prilagodbe i promjene ponašanja. No, da bi shvatili kako funkcionira eholokacija potrebno je imati mnoga znanja iz područja fizike zvuka. U ovom radu, iznesene su neke od osnovnih podjela šišmiša na temelju eholokacije. Glavna tema rada je način na koji se šišmiši odnose prema problemu interferencije ultrazvučnih signala pri eholokaciji tijekom lova na plijen.

Abstract (english)

The bats (order of Chiroptera) are the most unusual order in the class of mammals. Alongside birds, they are the only existent vertebrates that are capable of powered flight. Thanks to their ability to fly and echolocation as their way of orientation, they are the second largest specific group of mammals. Echolocation is one of the most specific ways of orientation and it demands numerous morphological, physiological and behavioural adaptations of sensory and motor systems. To understand the principle of echolocation it is necessary to know a lot about the physics of sound. In this work, I presented some of the fundamental divisions of bats based on echolocation. The main topic of this work is the way in which bats are dealing with interference from conspecifics and other sources while hunting for prey.
