Abstract

Karlovac je od svojeg osnutka, 13. srpnja 1579. godine, prošao četiri razvojne faze: nastanak i vojnička faza razvoja, prometno-trgovačka faza, industrijska faza te posljednja, suvremena tj. poslijeratna faza koja traje i danas. Grad je izgrađen prema uzoru na renesansnu idealnu tvrđavu, sa pravilnim sustavom ulica i zgrada, koji je i danas zadržan u tom izvornom dijelu grada (Zvijezda). Ostali gradski dijelovi obilježeni su nepravilnim i stihijskim razvojem koji je ovisio o trenutnim povijesnim, gospodarskim, demografskim i drugim utjecajima. Upravo pod tim utjecajima stvorena je današnja prostorna struktura grada Karlovca. Najvažnija značajka suvremene prostorne strukture grada je prenamjena površina nekad namijenjenih industrijskoj proizvodnji u površine za obavljanje različitih oblika trgovačkih djelatnosti, posebice hipermarketa. Većina ostalih osnovnih funkcija čovjekova opstojanja nije doživjela značajnije promjene, osim stalnog širenja, povećavanja i zauzimanja slobodnih površina u okolici grada.

Abstract (english)

The city of Karlovac has gone through four stages of development since its founding in June 13th 1579: its emergence and military phase, traffic-trading phase, industrial phase and last phase (post-war phase), which lasts to this day. The city was built on the model of an ideal Renaissance fortress, with a orthogonal system of streets and buildings, which is still retained in the original part of the city (Zvijezda). Other parts of the city have witnessed irregular and spontaneous development, influenced by its current historical, economic and demographic characteristics. The present-day spatial structure of the city of Karlovac was created under those influences. The most important feature of contemporary spatial structure is the conversion of areas once intended for industrial production into areas for various types of commercial activities, especially hypermarkets. The most of human existence basic functions have not undergone significant changes, except of the permanent expansion and occupation of the free-space areas in the city surroundings.
