Abstract

U ovom radu govori se o procesu razvoja meksičkih tvornica - maquiladora. Nakon definiranja pojma maquiladora i određenja specifičnih obilježja procesa proizvodnje koji se u njima odvija, razmatra se način na koji su ta postrojenja utjecala na transformaciju sjevernog pograničnog područja Meksika i izmijenila njegova ekonomsko - geografska obilježja. Nakon pristupanja sporazumu NAFTA Meksiko postaje sve ovisniji o stanju gospodarstva Sjedinjenih Američkih Država, kao i o djelovanju konkurencije na globalnom svjetskom tržištu. Unatoč negativnom utjecaju konkurencije istočnoazijskih zemalja, prihodi od proizvodnje u maquiladorama nadmašili su prihode od turizma i prodaje nafte te postali najvažniji izvor deviza za državu. U radu se također razmatra i utjecaj maquila proizvodnog programa na zapošljavanje stanovništva, kao i njegovo djelovanje na onečišćenje okoliša. SWOT analiza sažeto ukazuje na prednosti i nedostatke, mogućnosti i prijetnje ove industrijske proizvodnje koja je pridonijela otvaranju meksičkog gospodarstva i njegovom uključivanju u globalnu svjetsku ekonomiju.

Abstract (english)

Thesis discusses the development of the Mexican maquiladora plants. After defining the term maquiladora and delineation of the specific nature of the production process that takes place within, thesis considers the way in which these plants have influenced the transformation of northern border area of Mexico and altered its economic and geographic characteristics. After accession to NAFTA, Mexico is becoming more dependent of the USA economy, as well as the activities of the competition in the global market. Despite the negative impact that the competing East Asian countries have, revenues from production in the maquiladora exceeded the income from tourism and the sale of oil, becoming the most important source of foreign exchange for the country. Thesis also examines the impact of maquiladora production line on the employment rate in the region, as well as its negative effect on the environment. SWOT analysis summarizes the advantages and disadvantages, opportunities and threats of industrial production, which has contributed to the opening of the Mexican economy and its integration into the global world economy.
