Abstract

Danas svjedočimo značajnom porastu radikalnog islama diljem svijeta pa stoga i ne čudi da je većina terorističkih napada izvedena od strane radikalnih islamskih terorista. Radikalni je islamski terorizam zbog svojih globalnih ambicija jedini oblik terorizma koji je uistinu globalan. Glavni je cilj radikalnih muslimana uspostava globalnog kalifata koristeći nasilne i nenasilne metode. Isprva su njihovi napadi bili usmjereni protiv stanovništva na Bliskom istoku dok danas vidimo porast žrtava i u Europi i Sjedinjenim Državama. Osim toga, jedna od uobičajenih terorističkih metoda je uporaba samoubilačkih napada i moderne tehnologije iako je ona uglavnom proizvod zapadne civilizacije. Stoga, poneki znanstvenici tvrde da je globalni terorizam samo nuspojava većeg problema koji se zove „sukob civilizacija“.

Abstract (english)

Today, we are witnessing a significant rise of radical Islam across the globe and therefore it is not a surprise that the majority of terrorist attacks today is conducted by radical Islamic terrorists. Due to its global ambitions, radical Islamic terrorism is the only type of terrorism that is truly global. The main objective of radical Muslims is the establishment of a global caliphate using both violent and non-violent methods. Their attacks were at first aimed at the local population in the Middle East but today we are also seeing the growth of casualties in Europe and in the United States. Furthermore, the usage of suicide attacks and modern technology are among the most common methods of Islamic terrorism today although modern technology is mostly the product of Western civilization. Therefore, some scholars suggest that global terrorism is just a side effect of a much bigger issue called the „clash of civilizations“.
