Abstract

Civilizacija Maya slovila je kao jedna od najrazvijenijih drevnih civilizacija te je njena propast u klasičnom periodu privukla pozornost brojnih znanstvenika koji su podijeljeni na temu njenih uzroka propasti. Propast je progresivna pojava nastala kao rezultat međudjelovanja prirodnih i društvenih čimbenika, a u ovom radu mogući uzroci istraženi su na način da su podijeljeni u četiri skupine: odnos prema okolišu, klimatske promjene, neprijateljski raspoloženi susjedi i prijateljski raspoloženi trgovinski partneri. Svaka od navedenih skupina razrađena je na temelju prijašnjih istraživanja i stavova autora te je prema dostupnim informacijama izveden krajnji zaključak. S obzirom na dinamiku procesa, odnosno činjenicu da nisu svi čimbenici djelovali jednakom mjerom ni u istom razdoblju, ne može se izolirati jedan presudan čimbenik.

Abstract (english)

Civilization of Maya was once one of the most complex ancient civilizations, so its collapse in classical period brought attention from numerous scientists who are divided when talking about causes. Collapse is a progressive phenomenon resulting from interfering of physical and social factors, and in this thesis potencial causes are examined through four groups: interfering with environment, climate changes, hostile neighbours and friendly trade partners. Each of these groups are studied through former researches and authors opinions, and a final conclusion is made based on all accessible informations. Considering dynamic nature of process and the fact that not all the factors contributed in the same amount nor time, it is not possible to point one of them as crutial.
