Abstract

HIV (virus humane imunodeficijencije) je retrovirus koji napada imunosni sustav čovjeka. Krajnji i najteži stadij infekcije izazvane HIV-om je AIDS koji je uzrokovan teškim oštećenjima imunosnog sustava. Da bi se spriječila infekcija, potrebno je napraviti sigurno i učinkovito cjepivo protiv HIV-a, a to se pokušava na razne načine: potiče se proizvodnja široko neutralizirajućih protutijela, dizajniraju se anti-HIV-1 protutijela, koriste se novi nukleotidi i čestice slične virusima te se pokušava iskoristiti stanični odgovor CD4+ Tlimfocita. Borba s tim četvrtim po redu najvećim ubojicom na svijetu još traje i brojni znanstvenici su u potrazi za cjepivom koje će uništiti virus HIV-a, spriječiti pojavu AIDS-a i spasiti milijune ljudskih života. Puno je prepreka koje znatno otežavaju potragu za učinkovitim i sigurnim cjepivom, ali s razvojem novih tehnologija i istraživanjima imunosnih putova ta potraga bi trebala biti olakšana.

Abstract (english)

HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a retrovirus that attacks human immune system. AIDS is terminal and the most severe phase of HIV infection caused by heavy damage to immune system. To prevent HIV infection, it is necessary to make an efficient and safe HIV vaccine, and attempts towards this goal are: stimulating production of broadly neutralizing antibodies (bNAbs), using rationally designed anti-HIV-1 antibodies, using new nucleotides and virus-like particles (VLPs) and by harnessing CD4+ T cell responses. Struggle with the fourth largest killer in the world is still ongoing and many scientists have been searching for a vaccine that will destroy HIV virus, prevent AIDS and save millions of human lives. A lot of obstacles substantially complicate the search for more effective and safer vaccine, but with the development of new technologies and research of immune pathways, that search should be facilitated.
