Abstract

U ovom diplomskom radu opisuju se glavni sadržaji matematičke geografije, a predstavljeni su tako da su razumljivi učenicima srednjih škola, a neki od njih razumljivi su i učenicima osnovnih škola. Na početku rada opisan je povijesni razvoj spoznaje o obliku Zemlje. Uz to, navedeni su i izravni dokazi kuglastog oblika Zemlje u kojima uočavamo korelaciju između geografije i matematike. U ovom radu Zemlju smo promatrali kao kuglu jer je znanju učenika više primjerena kugla nego rotacijski elipsoid. Promatrajući Zemlju kao kuglu, pokazali smo kako su u prošlosti ljudi odredili dimenzije Zemlje. Posebno je opisano Eratostenovo računanje dimenzija Zemlje koje se i danas može primijeniti u školama. Nakon poglavlja o obliku i dimenzijama Zemlje, opisan je zemljopisni koordinatni sustav, odnosno definirani su pojmovi geografske duzine i širine te su opisani načini određivanja istih. Također je opisan i princip rada GPS-a. Na kraju rada opisane su osnovne vrste i svojstva kartografskih projekcija. Posebno su obrađene Lambertova cilindrična ekvivalentna projekcija, centralna (gnomonska) projekcija i stereografska projekcija u kojima smo na intuitivan način, odnosno korištenjem geometrije razumljive učenicima, pokazali koja metrička svojstva one zadovoljavaju, a koja ne.

Abstract (english)

In this diploma thesis the main elements of mathematical geography are presented in a way understandable by high school students, or even some elementary school students. First, the historical development of knowledge about the shape of the Earth is described. Furthermore, we describe direct evidence of the spherical shape of the Earth, which shows us the connection between mathematics and geography. In the remainder we assume the spherical model of Earth because it is more appropriate for students than the more correct ellipsoidal model. In the second part we describe how the dimensions of the Earth were determined. In particular, we describe Eratosthenes' method which can be used in schools even today. In the third chapter we describe the geographical coordinates. We define latitude and longitude and describe ways of determining them in any point on the surface of the Earth. In that chapter we also describe the principle of GPS. In the fourth chapter we discuss map projections, their properties and families. In more detail three projections are discussed and described: Lambert equal-area cylindrical projection, the central (gnomonic) projection and the stereographic projection.
