Abstract

El Niño je kompleksni fenomen koji povezuje dinamiku atmosfere i oceana na području ekvatorijalnog dijela Tihog oceana, najuočljiviji na južnoj polutki, otkud i znanstveni naziv ENSO - El Niño Southern Oscillation. Kao anomalijsko topla faza ciklusa, El Niño se obično javlja u nepravilnim intervalima oko Božića i značajno utječe na stanovništvo i gospodarstvo Latinske Amerike. Diferencirajući socioekonomske posljedice na ribarstvo, poljoprivredu, zdravlje te štete posljedično uzorkovane drugim prirodnim rizicima, vidljivo je kako je El Niño važna varijabla u svakodnevnome životu latinoameričkog stanovništva. Iako prirodan fenomen, njegovi učinci su često pojačani antropogenim djelovanjem, što pak uvjetuje velike ekonomske gubitke. Cilj ovog prvostupničkog rada je identificirati razmjere i prostorne promjene u atmosferskim, bioekološkim i socioekonomskim obrascima, putem komparativne analize podataka u El Niño i ne-El Niño godinama. Za usporednu analizu i objašnjenje cjelokupne situacije na području Latinske Amerike, u radu su korišteni kvantitativni podaci relevantnih meteoroloških, klimatoloških, oceanografskih i statističkih stranica, kao i relevantna znanstvena literatura koja se bavi naznačenom problematikom i spomenutim prostorom.

Abstract (english)

El Niño is a complex phenomenon that connects dynamics of atmosphere and ocean in the equatorial part of the Pacific Ocean, most noticeable in the southern hemisphere, therfore named ENSO - El Niño Southern Oscillation. As an anomalously warm phase of the cycle, El Niño usually occurs at irregular intervals around Christmas and significantly affects the population and economy of Latin America. Differentiating the socio-economic consequences on fisheries, agriculture, health and damages caused by other natural risks iniciated by El Niño event , it is evident that El Niño is an important variable in the daily life of the Latin American population. Although a natural phenomenon, its effects are often amplified by anthropogenic activity, which in turn causes large economic losses. The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to identify scale and spatial changes in atmospheric, bioecological and socioeconomic patterns, through a comparative analysis of data in El Niño and non-El Niño
years. For comparative analysis and explanation of the overall situation in Latin America, the paper uses quantitative data from relevant meteorological, climatological, oceanographic and statistical sources, as well as from relevant scientific papers.
