Abstract

Gmazovi su skupina kralježnjaka koja se pojavila krajem paleozoika, no svoj su
vrhunac imali u razdoblju mezozoika koje se još naziva i era gmazova. Morski gmazovi su
imali različite prilagodbe za život u vodi poput pluća, udova koji su se transformirali u
peraje, te kleidoična jaja u kojima su mladunci bili zaštićeni. Bez obzira na niz prilagodbi,
te njihove izvanredne veličine u odnosu na današnje gmazove, ipak su izumrli u masovnom
krednom izumiranju što i danas još nije u potpunosti razjašnjeno.

Abstract (english)

Reptiles are a group of vertebrates that appeared in the late Paleozoic, but reached
their peak in the Mesozoic period, which is also called the era of reptiles. Marine reptiles
had various adaptations for life in the water such as lungs, limbs that transformed into fins,
and cleidoic eggs in which the cubs were protected. Despite a number of adaptations and
their extraordinary size in relation to today's reptiles, they still became extinct in the mass
Cretaceous extinction, which is still not fully clarified today.
