Abstract

Upala je imunosni odgovor organizma na neki patogen ili vlastite oštećene stanice. Akutna upala
prestaje nakon što se ukloni iritans i dolazi do ponovne uspostave homeostaze. Međutim kronična upala
može imati vrlo negativne posljedice po organizam, od kroničnih bolesti sve do pojave raka. Kronična
upala potiče progresiju tumora i rezistenciju na lijekove. Brojni citokini, kemokini, čimbenici rasta i
imunosne stanice sudjeluju kao promotori rasta tumora. Upalni signalni putevi poput JAK-STAT, NF-
B, MAPK središnji su regulatori u upalnom procesu. Bliska veza kronične upale i raka, tj. imunosnog
sustava predmet je ovog rada kao i pregled novih pristupa u liječenju i prevenciji raka, a upravo signalni
putevi su jedni od glavnih ciljeva.

Abstract (english)

Inflammation is the body's immune response to a pathogen or its own damaged cells. Acute
inflammation resolves after the irritant is removed and homeostasis is re-established. However, chronic
inflammation can have very negative consequences for the body, from chronic diseases to the
appearance of cancer. Chronic inflammation promotes tumor progression and treatement resistance.
Numerous cytokines, chemokines, growth factors and immune cells participate as promoters of tumor
growth. Inflammatory signaling pathways such as JAK-STAT, NF-B, MAPK are central regulators
in the inflammatory process. The close connection between chronic inflammation and cancer, i.e. the
immune system, is the subject of this paper as well a review of new approaches to the treatment and
prevention of cancer, and signaling pathways are one of the main targets.
