Abstract

Američki bodljaš (Limulus polyphemus) jedna je od četiri recentne vrste iz nadrazreda Merostomata. Bodljaši su karakteristični po građi sličnoj trilobitima koja se nije mnogo primijenila tijekom duge evolucije. Prepoznatljiv izgled i velike populacije koje tijekom proljeća i ljeta izlaze na plaže, često blizu ljudskih naselja, zaradili su im posebno mjesto u modernoj kulturi. Abstract (english)

The American horseshoe crab (Limulus polyphemus) is one of the four recent species of the superclass Merostomata. Horseshoe crabs are characterized by their morphology, which is reminiscent of trilobites, and which has not changed significantly during their long evolution. They have a special place in modern culture due to their striking appearance and their large populations that visit the beaches in spring and summer, often close to human settlements.
