Abstract

Ionski snopovi koriste se za modifikacije i analize materijala za uporabu u ekstremnim uvjetima, poput fisijskih i fuzijskih reaktora ili svemirskih istraživanja, gdje visoke temperature prate i jako ionizirajuće zračenje. Jedna od novih tehnika istraživanja fuzijskih materijala je ozračivanje dvostrukim snopom iona gdje jedan snop koristi teške ione koji simuliraju elastične sudare između fuzijskih neutrona i materijala dok se drugim snopom implantira helij čime se simuliraju transmutacijske reakcije prouzrokovane visokoenergijskim udarima neutrona. Mjerenje temperature uzorka u ovakvim eksperimentima igra važnu ulogu u proučavanju fizikalnih procesa pri ozračivanju ionima, jer su studije promjena u materijalu uzrokovanih ozračivanjem ionima jako ovisne o temperaturi materijala. Gustoća i intenzitet ionskog snopa, geometrija i metoda ozračivanja ionima (skenirani ili stacionarni snop), te svojstva materijala su ključni u procjeni promjene temperature uzorka pri ozračivanju ionima. U ovom je radu kroz različite eksperimentalne postupke istražena mogućnost kvantifikacije efekta grijanja uzorka pri ozračivanju ubrzanim teškim ionima za razne gustoće toka ionskog snopa i na raznim temperaturama uzorka. Dobiveni rezultati ukazuju da efekt grijanja uzorka uzrokovan ozračivanjem je izraženiji za tanke uzorke te da osjetno pada pri debljinama od nekoliko dubina implantacije. Također otkriveno je da korištenje skeniranja snopa po uzorku ima pozitivne efekte na grijanje uzorka.

Abstract (english)

Ion beams are used for modifications and material analysis in extreme conditions, such as in fission and fusion reactors or space exploration, where high temperatures are accompanied by intense ionizing radiation. One of the new techniques for studying fusion materials is dual ion beam irradiation, where one beam uses heavy ions to simulate elastic collisions between fusion neutrons and the material, while the other beam implants helium to simulate transmutation reactions caused by high-energy neutron impacts. Measuring the sample temperature in such experiments plays an important role in studying physical processes during ion irradiation, as studies of material changes caused by ion irradiation are highly dependent on the material’s temperature. The density and intensity of the ion beam, the geometry and method of ion irradiation (scanned or stationary beam), and the properties of the material are crucial in assessing the temperature change of the sample during ion irradiation. In this work, through various experimental procedures, the possibility of quantifying the heating effect on the sample during irradiation with accelerated heavy ions was investigated for various ion beam flux densities and at different sample temperatures. The obtained results indicate that the heating effect on the sample caused by irradiation is more pronounced for thin samples and significantly decreases at thicknesses of several implantation depths. Additionally, it has been found that the use of beam scanning across the sample has positive effects on sample heating.
