Abstract

Prema IUCN-u (Svjetskoj uniji za zaštitu prirode), od 9.998 poznatih vrsta ptica, 137 je potpuno izumrlo ili nestalo u prirodi (postoje samo jedinke u zatočeništvu), 192 vrste su kritično ugrožene, 362 vrste su ugrožene i 669 vrsta spada u kategoriju rizične. U Hrvatskoj je zabilježeno 375 vrsta ptica, od kojih se 231 vrsta u našoj zemlji redovito gnijezdi. More nekoj od kategorija ugroženosti u Crvenoj knjizi ugroženih vrsta ptica Hrvatske. Glavni razlozi ugroženosti našeg ptičjeg svijeta : nestajanje vlažnih staništa (kao posljedica isušivanja velikih vlažnih područja), nestajanje močvara, uređivanje šuma i promjene vodnog režima, previše raširen lov i krivolov, suvremeni pristup poljoprivrednoj proizvodnji uz nestajanje tradicionalnog poljodjelstva i stočarstva, skupljanje ptičjih jaja i uzimanje mladih ptica iz gnijezda, sve češća rascjepkanost staništa. Za očuvanje ptica treba: zaštititi staništa na kojima ptice gnijezde, hrane se, odmaraju tijekom migracije ili koriste za obitavanje odnosno zimovanje, omogućiti upravljanje staništem na održivi način koji ne šteti pticama, omogućiti donošenje i implementiranje zakona koji se odnose na zaštitu ptica, provoditi podizanje svijesti javnosti putem medija, pokrenuti obnavljanje zapuštenih i uništenih staništa koja mogu biti pogodna za ptice, provesti reintrodukciju i repopulaciju izumrlih vrsta odnosno ugroženih vrsta smanjene brojnosti, omogućiti povećanje brojnosti ugroženih vrsta ptica mjerama izravne zaštite populacija kroz kontrolu invazivnih vrsta koje mogu negativno utjecati na ptice, i umjetni uzgoj ugroženih vrsta, te njihovo puštanje u prirodu.
