Abstract

Unatoč tome što se u geografskim teorijskim radovima u Hrvatskoj biogeografija navodi kao geografska disciplina, ona je na hrvatskim sveučilišnim programima geografije vrlo slabo zastupljena. Definirana kao disciplina koja se bavi proučavanjem rasprostranjenosti biljnog i životinjskog svijeta biogeografija ima čvrste veze s biologijom i ekologijom stoga je mnogi autori smatraju subdisciplinom tih područja. Pod utjecajem ekologije se razvija ekološka grana biogeografije koja proučava postojeće okolišne utjecaje na rasprostranjenost organizama dok historijska grana proučava rasprostranjenost i prostorne odnose organizama u dalekoj prošlosti. Gledajući iz perspektive geografije definirane kao discipline koja proučava međuodnos prirode i društva pripadnost biogeografije geografiji se može dovesti u pitanje.

Abstract (english)

Despite the fact that according to the Croatian theoretical works in geography, biogeography is considered a geographical discipline, it is poorly represented on geography departments of Croatian universities. Defined as a discipline which studies the distribution of flora and fauna, biogeography has strong links to both biology and ecology, and therefore many authors consider it a sub-discipline of those fields. The ecological branch of biogeography developed under the influence of ecology and it studies the existing environmental impacts on the distribution of organisms, while the historical branch studies the distribution and spatial relationships of organisms in the distant past. Looking from the perspective of geography defined as a discipline which studies the interrelationship between nature and society, the placing of biogeography under geography can be questioned.
