RNA molekula sadrži genetičku informaciju i ima katalitičku ulogu, te je stoga možemo smatrati pramolekulom života. Njena uloga je vrlo bitna i u danas u biologiji. RNA svijet je razdoblje u prošlosti Zemlje u kojem se život temeljio na RNA molekuli, a teoriju o RNA svijetu postavio je Walter Gilbert 1986. godine. Abstract (english)

RNA molecule stores genetic information and has a catalytic role, which makes us consider it to be the origin of life. It's role is also very important in contemporary biology. The RNA world represents a period in history of Earth in which life was based on the RNA molecule and the RNA world hypothesis was proposed by Walter Gilbert in 1986.
