Abstract

Istraživanje je obavljeno u sezoni gniježđenja 2008. godine na području Mokrica (Hrvatsko Zagorje, sjeverozapadna Hrvatska). U istraživanju odnosa između veličine jaja i broja jaja u gnijezdu korišteni su podaci za tri vrste ptica gnjezdarica. To su stanarice svraka (Pica pica L.) i poljski vrabac (Passer montanus L.) te ptica selica čvorak (Sturnus vulgaris L.). Kombinacija veličine pologa i veličine jaja određuje ukupni energetski ulog ženke u formirajuće gnijezdo. U ovome radu nije dobivena očekivana negativna korelacija između veličine jaja i broja jaja u gnijezdu (izuzetak je drugo leglo čvorka). U pravilu, ova istraživanja nisu podržala "hipotezu ustupka", odnosno, povećanjem broja jaja u gnijezdu nije došlo do smanjenja njihova volumena.

Abstract (english)

This study was conducted during the breeding seasons in 2008 in the Mokrice area (Hrvatsko Zagorje, north-western Croatia). This research is based on the correlations between clutch size and egg size of three breeding birds (sedentary: Magpie, Pica pica L., and Tree Sparrow, Passer montanus L.; migratory: Starling, Sturnus vulgaris L.). No negative correlation between clutch size and egg size was detected (with exception of Starling's second clutch). The combination of clutch size and egg size determines the total energetic investment in clutch formation by the laying female. In general, the results of our research do not support predictions based on the hypothesis of optimal clutch/egg size ("trade-off hypothesis").
