Abstract

Neandertalci su se javili na prostorima današnje Europe, Bliskog Istoka i zapadne Azije prije otprilike 320 000 godina. Većina znanstvenika danas smatra da su se neandertalci kao vrsta uspjeli održati sve do prije 28 000 godina. U svijetu znanosti mišljenja su podijeljena kada se postavi pitanje koliko su neandertalci bili napredni. Temeljem paleontoloških nalaza neke su činjenice ustanovljene i danas opće prihvaćene. Druge činjenice je veoma teško dokazati samo putem paleontoloških nalaza, te one još uvijek izazivaju polemike između znanstvenika. Ovaj radi bavi se temom koja je kada se proučava život neandertalaca možda i najzanimljivija, a to je njihovo izumiranje. Postoji mnogo teorija o tome što im se zapravo dogodilo (hladnoća, asimilacija s modernim čovjekom, pojačano UV – B zračenje, erupcija vulkana, kompeticija, Hrdličkina teorija). Mnogo knjiga je napisano o životu neandertalaca, ali o njihovom izumiranju autori nisu toliko mnogo pisali. Zaključiti što je uzrokovalo izumiranje neandertalaca prilično. Izumiranje neandertalaca bi se moglo shvatiti kao posljedica kombinacije različitih čimbenika.

Abstract (english)

Neanderthals appeared the on territories of today's Europe, Middle East and west Asia around 320 000 years ago. Most of the scientists today consider that neanderthal species lived until 28 000 years ago. In the sientific world opinions on the advancement of neanderthals are divided. Paleontological findings confirmed some facts that are today widely accepted. Other facts are more difficult to prove just by the use of paleontological findings and they still cause debates among scientists. The main subject of this work is one of the most interesting topics when we talk about neanderthals, their extinction. There are many theories regarding their extinction (coldness, asimilation with modern humans, stronger UV – B irradiation, volcano eruption, competition, Hrdlička's theory). Lots of books are written about neanderthals, but not so many about causes of their extinction. To conclude what has really caused the neanderthal extinction is really hard. Extinction of neanderthals could be understood as the consequence of combination of different factors.
