Abstract

U radu se raspravlja o počecima statističkih analiza u znanosti, njihovoj primjeni i nedostacima koji mogu dovesti u pitanje etičnost njihovog korištenja. Scijentometrija je znanost koja analizom znanstvenih publikacija vrednuje utjecaj rada, časopisa, znanstvenika i institucija na znanost. Uvođenje scijentometrijskih indikatora 60-ih godina prošlog stoljeća predstavlja pomak u objektivnom vrednovanju znanosti. Čimbenik odjeka je najstariji poznati indikator. Naglasak je stavljen na vanjske faktore koji ga oblikuju te prednosti i nedostatke korištenja metode. Također, predložena su alternativna rješenja s naglaskom na h-indeks. Zbog manipuliranja samim vrijednostima pokazatelja, postavlja se općenito pitanje etičnosti postupanja u znanstvenim istraživanjima, uz navede poznate primjere prijevara u znanosti.

Abstract (english)

The paper discusses the beginnings of statistical analysis in science, its usage and shortcomings that can put in question the ethics behind its application. Scientometrics is a field of study which concerns itself with analysis of scientific literature and measures the scientific impact of papers, journals, scientists and institutions. By introducing scientometric indicators in the 1960s, a progress has been made in objective evaluation of science. Impact factor is the earliest known indicator. Emphasis is put on the external factors that affect it as well as its assets and shortcomings. Also, alternative solutions are proposed with an emphasis on h-index. Due to interfering with the values of the indicators, a general question of ethical conduct within scientific research arises, with given famous examples of scientific misconducts.
