Abstract

Metodom skeletokronologije su obrađene jedinke tri taksona zelenih žaba roda Pelophylax ulovljene tijekom 2011. i 2012. godine. Pretpostavlja se da ta tri taksona tvore hibridogenski kompleks sličan Pelophylax kl. eskulentus kompleksu, međutim kako se radi o drugačijim roditeljskim vrstama smatra se da je riječ o novom još neopisanom kompleksu. Potvrđivanje novog modela odnosa zelenih žaba može biti poticaj za istraživanja takvih odnosa diljem svijeta. U ovom radu su skeletokronološkom metodom obrađene bedrene kosti 101 jedinke. Iz poprečnih prereza su iščitane linije usporenog rasta koje su poistovjećene s godištem jedinki. Starost jedinki je uspoređena s duljinom tijela i duljinom femura te se utvrdila razlika u indeksu rasta među taksonima. Najstarije jedinke su bile stare 6 godina, a najmlađe 1 godinu. Roditeljske vrste, P. kurtmuelleri i P. shqipericus, su imale prosječnu starost 4 godine odnosno 1,5 godinu dok je hibrid očekivano imao prosječnu procijenjenu starost između roditeljskih vrsta 1,8 godina. Razlike u starosnoj strukturi mogu doprinijeti boljem razlikovanju i opisivanju taksona kao i uvođenju bolje zaštite.

Abstract (english)

Skeletochronology metod was used to process three taxa of green frogs, Pelophylax genus, caught during 2011 and 1012. It is assumed that these three taxa form a complex similar to Pelophylax kl. esculentus complex. However, since these taxa come from different parent species, it is assumed that they belong to a new and undetermined complex. Its conformation would provide an additional important research topic. Using skeletochronology method, 101 green frog femur was cross-sectioned and analysed for the existence of lines of arrested growth. To determine the growth difference between green frog taxa, body and femur length was compared with estimated age of frog individuals. Estimated age of oldest animals was 6 and youngest 1 years of age. Parental species, P. kurtmuelleri and P. shqipericus had an average age of 4 and 1,5 year, while the hybrid had an average age of 1,8 years. Differences in age structure may contribute to better distinguishing and describing taxa of this population as well as their better conservation.
