Abstract

Subantaktičkoj zoni pripada 6 otočja i otoka: Prince Edward otočje, otočje Crozet, otok Macquarie, otočje Kerguelen, Heard i McDonald otočje te otok South Georgia. Ovi otoci su većinom oceanski i djeluju kao važno utočište i mjesto za razmnožavanje brojnih vrsta ptica i tuljana. Klima je hladna, vjetrovita i vlažna te kao takva onemogućava rast stabala i drvenastih biljaka. U ovom radu ukratko je opisana vegetacija te floristički sastav zajednica pojedinih otočja ili otoka.

Abstract (english)

The subantarctic zone includes 6 islands and island groups: Prince Edward Islands, Crozet Islands, Macquarie Island, Kerguelen islands, Heard and McDonland Islands and South Georgia. These islands are mostly oceanic and act as an important refuge and breeding ground for many bird and seal species. The climate is cold, windy and wet and, as such, does not support the growth of trees and woody plants. In this paper, a short description of the flora and vegetation of each subantarctic island or island group is given.
