Abstract

Alge imaju velik potencija za primjenu u biokozmetici. Proizvodi formulirani s ekstraktom algi mogu pomoći s hidratacijom kože zbog svojih polisaharida koji imaju humektantno djelovanje te masnih kiselina koje smanjuju transepidermalni gubitak vode okluzivnim djelovanjem. Povezano je preventivno djelovanje na oksidativni stres uzrokovan UV zračenjem i korištenje ekstrakta metanola iz morskih algi što se može prevesti na proizvode za zaštitu od štetnog utjecaja sunca odnosno njegov utjecaj na vidljive znakove prijevremenog starenja. Peptidi i florotanini iz algi se također može koristiti u antiaging svrhe zbog stimuliranja sinteze kolagena i elastina. Karotenoidi su samo neki od spojeva iz algi koji su pokazali antioksidativno djelovanje koje je iznimno povoljno za zdravlje kože. Sve prethodno spomenuto ohrabruje nastavak istraživanja na koje se sve načine alge mogu ukomponirati u ljudsku upotrebu naravno obraćajući pozornost na istraživanje mehanizma djelovanja kao i na sigurnost i etičnost korištenja prirodnih sastojaka.

Abstract (english)

The potential for use of algae in biocosmetics is vast. Products formulated with algae extract can help hydrate the skin. This is made possible by the polysaccharides which act as humectants. Fatty acids reduce transepidermal water loss by providing an occlusive barrier to the skin. A link between the prevention of oxidative stress caused by UV radiation and the use of methanol extract from seaweed has been established. This is could be applied in products whose aim is protection against the harmful effects of the sun as well as its effect on visible signs of premature aging. Peptides and phlorotannins from algae can be used for antiaging purposes since they stimulate collagen and elastin synthesis. Carotenoids are just some of the algae compounds that have shown antioxidant activity which is extremely beneficial to skin health. All of the above encourages that the research on ways algae can be incorporated into human use continues, of course paying attention to the mechanism of action as well as safety and ethics of using natural ingredients.
