Abstract

Virusi su najbrojniji biološki entiteti na Zemlji. Genom virusa je DNA ili RNA. RNA virusi podrazumijevaju i posebnu skupinu, retroviruse koji pretvaraju svoj genom u DNA kao dio ciklusa infekcije. Animalni virusi su najkompleksniji jer inficiraju eukariote koji imaju najbolje razvijen imunološki sustav. Postoje tri načina proučavanja evolucije RNA virusa: teorijsko, eksperimentalno i komparativno. Jedan od glavnih problema u istraživanju evolucije RNA virusa je više ograničenost podacima nego teorijom. Jedan gen koji kodira RNA-ovisnu RNA polimerazu se naziva gen RdRp i univerzalan je među RNA virusima. Svi pokušaji o zaključivanjima filogenetskih odnosa među RNA virusima se temelje na analizama RdRp sekvenci.

Abstract (english)

Viruses are the most common biological entities on Earth. Viruses have either DNA or RNA genome. RNA viruses also consists of a special group, the retroviruses, that convert their genomes to DNA as part of the infection cycle. Animal viruses are the most complex, because they are infecting eukaryote organisms that have a very effective immune system. There are three ways in which study of RNA virus evolution has proceeded: the theoretical, the experimenal and the comparative. Many of the major problems in studying RNA virus evolution are limited more by data than theory. A single gene encoding an RNA-dependent RNA polymerase is universal among RNA viruses and is called RdRp. All of attempts to infer the phylogenetic relationships of RNA viruses are based on the analysis o RdRp sequences.
