Abstract

U ovom diplomskom radu u prvom poglavlju je opisan život velikog matematičara al-Hvarizmija, povijesne okolnosti u vrijeme njegovog djelovanja, njegovi doprinosi ne samo matematici nego i astronomiji i geografiji. Zatim su spomenuti i njegovi prethodnici, suvremenici i sljedbenici koji su imali utjecaja na njega, odnosno on na njih te je dan i kratki opis njegovog matematičkog doprinosa algebri i aritmetici. U drugom poglavlju je opisano njegovo djelo “Algebra“. Opisan je sadržaj djela i izdvojeni su i detaljno razradeni odredeni primjeri koji su pronadeni u prijevodima tog djela. U trećem poglavlju je opisano njegovo djelo “Aritmetika“, tj. sadržaj djela: opis indijskog dekadskog pozicijskog sustava, pravila za osnovne četiri računske operacije i metode računanja s razlomcima uz navođenje nekoliko primjera za sve.

Abstract (english)

In this thesis, the first chapter describes the life of the great mathematician al-Khwarizmi, the historical circumstances at the time of his life, his contributions, not only to mathematics, but also to astronomy and geography. Then we describe his predecessors, contemporaries and followers who had an influence on him, and those whom he had an influence upon, as well as a short description of his mathematical contribution to algebra and arithmetic. The second chapter describes his book “Algebra“. The contents of the test are described and, a selection of examples found in the translations of that work are singled out and explained in detail. The third chapter describes his work “Arithmetic“, including the content of the test: the description of the Indian decimal number system, the rules for the basic four arithmetic operations, and the methods of calculation with fractions, giving a few examples for all of them.
