Abstract

Republika Artsakh, odnosno Nagorno Karabakh kakav joj je drugi i poznatiji naziv, je jedno od brojnih područja na svijetu oko čijeg statusa se vode međunarodni sporovi. Ratovi i mirovni sporazumi koji su se događali nakon raspada SSSR-a oko ovog područja nisu donijeli konačno rješenje statusa većinski armenske Republike Artsakh na teritoriju Republike Azerbajdžan. Cilj rada je utvrditi moguće razvoje događaja po pitanju razrješenja statusa sporne regije u svjetlu događaja nakon rata iz 2020. godine između armenske i azerbajdžanske strane koji su uvelike otežali nastojanja ove regije da postane međunarodno priznata država. Usporedbom situacije u Artsakhu s drugim primjerima jednostranog proglašenja neovisnosti te uzimanjem u obzir, prema autoru, tri ključna čimbenika za uspješno ostvarenje neovisnosti (međunarodnopravni, vojni i geopolitički), razmotrit će se mogućnosti za ostvarenje međunarodnog priznanja Artsakha. Rad će se, također, osvrnuti na pravne postavke suvereniteta Artsakha, diplomatske formate kojima se nastojalo doći do rješenja, interese regionalnih sila, ali i na povijesni razvoj regije koji je posljedično utjecao na njenu burnu stvarnost u kojoj se tek trebaju riješiti svi problemi oko njenog statusa.

Abstract (english)

Republic of Artsakh, or Nagorno-Karabakh as it also called, is one of the many areas in the world about whose status the international disputes are held. Wars and peace agreements that were happening after the dissolution of the USSR over this area didn’t deliver a final status of Armenian majority Republic of Artsakh on the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The aim of this thesis is to determine the possible developments in relation to the resolution of the status of the disputed region in the light of the events after the war of 2020 between the Armenian and Azerbaijani side which have greatly aggravated the efforts of this region to become an internationally recognized state. By comparing the situation in Artsakh with other examples of unilateral declaration of independence and taking into account three key factors, according to the author, for the successful achievement of independence (international legal, military and geopolitical), the possibilities for achieving international recognition of Artsakh will be considered. The paper will also look at the legal settings of Artsakh's sovereignty, the diplomatic formats used to achieve a solution, the interests of regional powers and also the historical development of the region, which consequently affected its turbulent reality, in which all the problems surrounding it have yet to be resolved.
