Abstract
Starenje predstavlja skup promjena uslijed kojih dolazi do smanjenja funkcionalnosti stanica te povećanja rizika jedinke za smrt. Mehanizam starenja nije u potpunosti razjašnjen ali smatra se da promjene na molekularnoj razini izazivaju procese uslijed kojih dolazi do gubitka funkcije stanice. Znanstvenici u proučavanju starenja koriste različite modelne organizme koji su mogući izvor specifičnih gena pomoću kojih bi se ovaj proces modificirao. U ovom radu posebna pozornost je dana golokrtičjem štakoru (Heterocephalus glaber), organizmu koji predstavlja najveći potencijal za buduća istraživanja procesa starenja. Njegove jedinstvene karakteristike koje proizlaze iz neuobičajenog načina života, omogućavaju proučavanje različitih bioloških procesa.
Abstract (english)
Aging is a set of changes that occur due to loss of function of cells and increase the risk of an individual for death. The mechanism of aging is not fully understood but it is believed that the changes at the molecular level are caused by processes that occur due to loss of function of the cell. Researchers in the study of aging use various model organisms that are a potential source of specific genes through which this process could be modified. In this paper, special attention is given to the naked mole-rat, the organism whicht represents the greatest potential for future studies of the aging process. Its unique characteristics resulting from unusual lifestyle, are enabling the study of diverse biological processes.
