Abstract

Mahovine su sastavni dio prirodnih ekosustava te imaju važnu ulogu u održavanju stabilnosti
istih. Međutim, ova niža skupina biljaka tijekom povijesti je bila zanemarivana zbog manjka
ekonomskog potencijala, stoga glavni problem zaštite ove skupine predstavlja manjak
kontinuiranih podataka o njihovim karakteristikama i rasprostranjenosti. Europski odbor za
zaštitu Bryophyta danas je glavno tijelo za prikupljanje informacija o mahovinama. Mahovine
su najviše zahvaćene promjenama na staništima, među kojima se ističu fragmentacija, promjena
vodnog režima, isušivanje močvara, deforestacija i zagađenje zraka. Zbog specifičnih životnih
uvjeta i osjetljivosti potrebno je provođenje aktivnih mjera zaštite koje najčešće uključuju in
situ metode.
U Republici Hrvatskoj postoje 43 zakonom zaštićene vrste pravih mahovina od kojih su
dvije na popisu ciljanih vrsta Natura 2000 područja. U Hrvatskoj je potrebno intenzivirati sva
četiri koraka konzervacijskog procesa, jer tek nakon što se detaljno zabilježi distribucija vrsta
te se napravi nacionalna Crvena knjiga mahovina, bit će moguće krenuti u ozbiljnu i kvalitetnu
zaštitu ovih nepravedno zanemarenih biljnih organizama.

Abstract (english)

Bryophytes are an integral part of natural ecosystems where they play important roles in
maintaining their stability. This group, however, has historically been neglected due to the lack
of economic potential, which in return resulted in its major problem - the lack of continuous
data on their characteristics and distribution. Today, the European Committee for the
Conservation of Bryophytes is the main body for gathering information about mosses. This
group of plants is most affected by changes in their habitats, most notably by fragmentation,
change in water regime, wetland drainage, deforestation and air pollution. Due to their
sensitivity and specific living conditions they require active conservation measures most often
involving in situ methods.
There are 43 protected species of moss in the Republic of Croatia, two of which can be found
the Natura 2000 area. In Croatia, all four steps of the conservation process need to be intensified,
as only after the distribution of species is made in detail and the National Red Moss Book is
made will it be possible to start serious and quality protection of these undeservingly neglected
plant organizations.
