Abstract

Vrtna strnadica Emberiza hortulana Linnaeus, 1758 je ptica selica koja zimuje u Africi, a gnijezdi se na otvorenim staništima u velikom dijelu Europe i Azije. Brojnost populacije opada zbog nestanka pogodnih staništa. Širenje poljoprivrednih područja, monokultura, izgradnja prometnica, napuštanje tradicionalnog stočarstva i sukcesije su glavni razlozi nestanka pogodnih staništa. Cilj ovog rada bio je utvrditi izbor staništa vrtne strnadice na području PP Učka, kao i potrebne značajke staništa za opstanak te vrste. Uspoređene su značajke staništa (gustoća i visina stabala, gustoća i visina trave, prisutnost stijena i dr.) u PP Učka na teritoriju na kojem su prisutne vrtne strnadice i u okolnom području. Dobiveni podaci uspoređeni su s podacima s Goliča, u slovenskom dijelu Istre, u kojem više ne nalazimo vrtne strnadice. Teritorij na kojem su prisutne vrtne strnadice imao je najmanji broj stabala. Ispaša je bila intenzivnija nego na ostalim područjima, a vrijednosti visine i gustoće trave bile su između vrijednosti slučajnih točaka na Učki i područja na Goliču. Vrtnim strnadicama je za izbor staništa najvažnija vegetacijska struktura, osobito heterogenost staništa.

Abstract (english)

The ortolan bunting Emberiza hortulana Linnaeus, 1758 is a migratory bird wintering in Africa and breeding in open habitats in Eurasia. Due to the disappearance of suitable habitats the population number is decreasing. Expansion of agricultural areas, monocultures, road construction, abandonment of traditional farming and succession are the main reasons for the disappearance of suitable habitats. The aim of this study was to investigate habitat choice of the ortolan bunting in the area of Nature Park Učka, and to identify habitat features needed for its conservation. This study compared currently occupied and unoccupied ortolan bunting territories in the Učka Nature Park. The territories at Učka were compared with the habitat at Golič, Slovenia, from where the ortolan bunting had disappeared. The territory where ortolan bunting was present had the smallest number of trees. Grazing index was higher on the occupied areas than in other areas, and grass height and density were in between the values of random points at Učka and areas at Golič. Vegetation structures, especially habitat heterogeneity, are the most important for habitat selection.
