Abstract

Konike (presjeci stošca s ravninom) se proučavaju više od 2000 godina. One su prvi puta u matematiku uvedene u antičkogrčko doba te su se njima posebno bavili Menehmo, Euklid, Apolonije i Papus. U arapsko doba, Omar Khayyam ih je iskoristio za rješavanje kubnih jednadžbi, a u doba renesanse otkrivene su njihove primjene u astronomiji (Galileo, Kepler). Nakon što je Descartes uveo analitičku geometriju, postale su poznate i kao krivulje drugog reda. U ovom radu pratimo navedenu povijest konika od njihova otkrića do Boškovića, koji je u 18. stoljeću prvi dao opću teoriju konika kao ravninskih krivulja. Abstract (english)

Conic sections They were first introduced in ancient Greek times, and were studied specifically by Menachmus, Euclides, Apollonius, and Pappus. In the Arab era, Omar Khayyam used them to solve cubic equations, and in the Renaissance their applications in astronomy were discovered (Galileo, Kepler). After Descartes introduced analytic geometry, they also became known as second-order curves. In this thesis, we describe the above-mentioned history of conic sections from their discovery up to Bošković, who in the 18th century was the first to give a general theory of conics as plane curves. At the end of the theses, we compare the relationship between historical approaches and modern ones.
