Abstract

Slatkovodni školjkaš Dreissena polymorpha (Pallas, 1771) je autohtona vrsta u Crnome moru i Kaspijskom jezeru. Ova vrsta je ponajviše putem balastnih voda proširila svoj areal te je trenutno prisutna u brojnim rijekama i jezerima Europe i Sjeverne Amerike. Kao invazivna vrsta, ona na područjima introdukcije uzrokuje brojne nepoželjne ekološke i socio-ekonomske učinke. Izrazito velika reproduktivna sposobnost, slobodno plivajuća veliger ličinka te mogućnost stvaranja bisusnih niti samo su neke od karakteristika koje ovome školjkašu omogućuju ovakvo proširenje areala. Kako bi se spriječilo daljnje širenje vrste D. polymorpha primjenjuju se biološke, kemijske i fizičke metode kontrole. Istraživanja koja se u Hrvatskoj provode od 1990. godine pokazuju kako se ova vrsta invazivnog školjkaša iz rijeke Dunav proširila u rijeku Dravu, a pronađena je i u jezerima Čingi Lingi, Jarun, Kopačevo i u Vranskom jezeru.

Abstract (english)

Freshwater mussel Dreissena polymorpha (Pallas, 1771) is a species native to the Black and Caspian seas. One of the species main means of expanding its living area is ballast waters. Today this mussel can be found throughout the rivers and lakes of Europe and North America. As an invasive species, the mussel D. polymorpha once introduced to a new habitat causes many unwanted environmental and socio-economic impacts. This species has a number of characteristics that had allowed its rapid expansion. Some of the traits are rapid reproduction and possession of planktonic veliger larvae and byssal threads. Many biological, chemical and physical methods of control are in use to stop the further dispersal of this mussel. Research done in Croatia since the 1990’s showed how this species of invasive mussel spread from the river Dunav into the river Drava. Also it has been found in lakes Čingi Lingi, Jarun, Kopačevo and Vrana.
