Abstract

Rupertove kaplje su stakleni predmeti oblika kaplje tankog, izduženog repa koji se proizvode tako da se vruće tekuće staklo naglo hladi. U tom procesu površina se ohladi puno prije no unutrašnjost kapi, što rezultira u naprezanjima u materijalu. Ukoliko se na tijelo kaplje primijeni velik pritisak, on se kompenzira unutarnjim pritiskom i kaplju je vrlo teško razbiti. S druge strane, primjena male sile na rep kaplje dovoljna je za uzrokovanje katastrofalnog urušavanje cijele kaplje. U diplomskom radu će se izrađivati kaplje i mjeriti brzina širenja propagacije eksplozije od repa prema tijelu kaplje. Kako se radi o brzinama reda veličine 10km/s, mjerenje brzine će se pokušati napraviti rezistivnom metodom i osciloskopom.

Abstract (english)

Prince Rupert’s drops are tear-shaped glass objects with a thin, elongated tail obtained when hot molten glass is rapidly cooled down. In this process, the surface is cooled down much faster than the inner parts of the drop, which results in stresses in the material. If large mechanical pressure is applied to the body of the drop, it is compensated by inner pressure and the drop becomes very hard to break. On the other hand, application of a small pressure to the tail of the drop is enough to cause the destruction of the whole drop. In this paper, we plan to make drops and measure the disintegration speed from the tail to the head of the drop. As we are working with speeds in the order of 10km/s, we will use a resistive method and a oscilloscope for measuring the disintegration speed.
