Manifestations of strong correlations and disorder in selected problems of condensed matter physics
Manifestations of strong correlations and disorder in selected problems of condensed matter physics
Juraj Krsnik
This thesis deals with several problems in condensed matter theory involving strong correlations and/or a disorder. It is divided into four parts, with the effects of electron-phonon interaction appearing as the key subject of the first three parts. The focus of the last part is on the role of strong disorder in strongly correlated systems. In the first part, we provide the exact solution to the polaronic impurity problem and exploit it to study some aspects of local and transport properties...
Manipulation of dirac electrons through the nanoscale modulation of epitaxial graphene
Manipulation of dirac electrons through the nanoscale modulation of epitaxial graphene
Iva Šrut Rakić
Structurally modulated graphene presents a new variety of this 2D material which offers a possibility of electronic band engineering and promises to extend a wide range of possible applications of graphene from straintronics, optoelectronics and spintronics, coatings, sensors for batteries, etc. Motivated by these prospects, and a small number of experimental realizations of the modulated graphene systems, we have synthesized and studied epitaxial graphene on stepped Ir(332) substrate. The...
Mapping of topological properties of photonic lattices
Mapping of topological properties of photonic lattices
Ema Jajtić
The study of topological properties of materials started in solid-state systems and was soon expanded to photonic systems. Today, topological photonics is one of the hottest areas of research in physics. In this thesis, we study topological properties and their mappings in photonic lattices. In the first part of this thesis, we study the mapping of topological singularities from the momentum space to the real space. For this, we employ 2D photonic honeycomb and Lieb lattices that have...
Marked Poisson cluster processes and applications
Marked Poisson cluster processes and applications
Petra Žugec
The theory of point processes constitutes an important part of modern stochastic process theory and is widely recognized as a useful and elegant tool for modelling. Point processes are well understood models and have applications in a wide range of applied probability areas, especially in risk theory which is important for understanding non-life insurance mathematics. It deals with the modelling of claims and gives answers on premium amount. Elegant mathematical analysis of the classical...
Mathematical analysis of the nonsteady flow of micropolar fluid in a thin domain
Mathematical analysis of the nonsteady flow of micropolar fluid in a thin domain
Marko Radulović
The main subject of this dissertation consists of studying the micropolar fluid model, which represents a generalization of the well--known classical Navier--Stokes model, mainly in the sense that it takes into account the microstructure of the fluid and effects such as shrinking and rotation of the particles of the fluid. Our first goal is to prove the existence and uniqueness of a generalized nonsteady micropolar Poiseuille solution in an infinite cylinder. This is achieved by decomposing...
Mathematical modeling and numerical simulation of multiphase multicomponent flow in porous media
Mathematical modeling and numerical simulation of multiphase multicomponent flow in porous media
Ivana Radišić
Two-phase flow in porous media appears in many petroleum and environment engineering problems, like secondary and tertiary oil recovery, the disposal of radioactive waste, sequestration of \(CO_2\) etc. This thesis covers both mathematical and numerical analysis of this type of flows. Significant part of this thesis is devoted to the mathematical modeling and analysis of multiphase flows, precisely to a formulation of a two-phase, two-component model with exchange of the mass between the...
Mathematical models of flows in porous and mixed media
Mathematical models of flows in porous and mixed media
Andrej Novak
This thesis consists of two parts. In the first part, nontrivial generalizations of the transport-collapse scheme are presented. The initial value problem for heterogeneous scalar conservation laws is considered and as a consequence of the analysis of the scheme a new solution concept of the initial-boundary value problem for scalar conservation laws arose. This is the most important contribution of this part of the thesis. In the both situations under the consideration the rigorous proofs...
Matične stanice iz limfoidnoga tkiva i njihova diferencijacija
Matične stanice iz limfoidnoga tkiva i njihova diferencijacija
Josipa Skelin
Sekvencijskom razgradnjom tkiva...
Measurement of W and Z pair production and search for WZ resonances at the large hadron collider
Measurement of W and Z pair production and search for WZ resonances at the large hadron collider
Srećko Morović
This thesis presents a study of WZ production in proton proton collisions at a center of mass energy of 7 TeV. The measurements are based on data recorded by the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of approximately 5 fb-1. The electron and muon decay channels of theW and Z bosons are used. A measurement of the inclusive cross section of the pp → WZ + X process is performed, restricted to the phase space for which the Z boson mass lies in...
Measurement of associated Wgamma production and search for anomalous WWgamma couplings with the CMS detector
Measurement of associated Wgamma production and search for anomalous WWgamma couplings with the CMS detector
Senka Đurić
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has recently delivered collisions at a center of mass energy of 7 TeV and has therefore allowed for the first time to test the validity of the Standard Model (SM) at TeV scale. The precise measurement of electroweak processes constitute a central part of this program. Diboson processes, in which pairs of electroweak bosons are produced, provide in particular a good opportunity to test SM at these energies. They also allow to seek indirectly for new physics...
Measurement of the 58Ni neutron capture cross section
Measurement of the 58Ni neutron capture cross section
Petar Žugec
The (n, γ) cross section of 58Ni – of importance for the nuclear astrophysics, as well as for nuclear technologies – was measured at the neutron time-of-flight facility n_TOF at CERN. For the measurement, two C6D6 liquid scintillation detectors were used, specifically optimized to provide as low neutron sensitivity as possible. At n_TOF, the highly luminous white neutron beam covers 12 orders of magnitude in energy – from 10 meV to 10 GeV. It is produced by a pulsed beam of 20 GeV...
